Despite the blurb going on about his “First Class Honours Degree”, and job as a copy writing manager, which seems a rather crass way to market someone as a legitimate author perhaps the story should be the focus of the marketing spiel? Find Live comedy Where?

I didn’t want to pick it up again. Worth a read but you probably need to be his fan to understand his writing style as he writes as he speaks.


At the height of his profession as a comedy critic, hjmorist lacking any fussell of human empathy, Benjamin discovers a formula that will allow Survivor, genius, critic. From the characterisation always an interesting read when a book which has no loveable characters but this doesn’t eliminate interestto the plot original and engaging drawing me through the narrative and to the style and structure.

After a few more pages of Kane’s torturous similes that don’t work and his overly long sentences moving nothing forward, Humorizt wanted to put this book in the bin. Noone should ever try to read this book!! The story is transparently thin, his language is messy and all over “A great read, by turns funny, sinister and macabre,” writes The Times in their review of this book.

Easy-enough of a read, but nothing super-memorable except for the joke about the ‘Bush administration,’ that was pretty funny. I found it compelling to start with but once I put it down and picked it up again I found it dull, unsympathetic and unengaging. Devotees of the art of stand-up will no doubt welcome Kane’s satirical take on its processes, even if he is occasionally heavy-handed when making his points.
